Filipino Gambling Superstitions
Almost all countries have its share of superstitious beliefs, and the Philippines is no exception. This custom of believing in superstitions might have sprung out from being the melting pot of several cultures, which have been historically superstitious cultures.
Early records even show that before foreigners came to the land, there is evidence that the Filipinos believe in the supernatural, thus, they may also naturally be inclined to be superstitious.
The superstitions they have sometimes become their guidelines in life, thus, some Filipino gambling players have superstitions that they believe could help them win gambling games.
So just what are Filipino superstitions in gambling?

Some Filipinos believe that if they were loveless at the moment, they will be lucky at the gambling table. That is why when they just break up with their partners, they head to the gambling house to test their luck. They may be heartbroken, but at least they will go home full of money, or so they believe. So, in case that you are happy and content with your lovelife, it would be advisable not to play any gambling game.
There is also a Filipino gambling superstition regarding having a woman sit beside you at the gambling table. Some believe that a woman sitting beside that gambler gives him good luck, while others believe that it is nothing but bad luck. It depends on the person really - whatever works for each one.
It is also believed among Filipinos that a pregnant woman is lucky in gambling. That is why gambling husbands either bring their pregnant wives to the game, or they let these pregnant women play for them.
Filipinos also believe in bringing lucky items to their gambling session. Some bring the scapular or medallion they get from holy week, while others wear their lucky shorts.
They also have the habit of making the sign of the cross in the gambling game, usually just before the card is drawn or the dice are thrown.
Filipinos are great fans of lottery, that is why they consult their horoscope for lucky numbers. It is also believed that if someone is talking in his sleep, you should ask that person for numbers, and you should bet those numbers in the lottery because they have high chances of winning. If they also see their dead loved ones in their dreams, they try to remember the numbers these ghosts gave them, if there were any. Morning after, they go straight to the bet these on the lottery.
